CLOSING PARTY WITH TRIO TEKKE FRIDAY 16 DECEMBER 2011, 19:30
The House of Larimeloon officially closed its doors with a closing down sale in October but remands a CLOSING PARTY for the final closure of the alternative activities it has been indulging in since 2010. For the occasion, the House of Larimeloon hosts a live event with the Nicosia/ London based contemporary rebetiko combo Trio Tekke and will end the evening in a casual after party atmosphere with both Dj Lefto and Dj Soullis Vakis serving their Funky Gypsy Breaks.
Trio Tekke were formed in London in 2005 driven by their love for the old Rebetiko song. After many appearances in Cyprus and Europe, Trio Tekke released their first album ‘Ta Reggetika’, in 2009, a collection of imaginative, peculiar and entertaining covers of old Rebetiko songs as well as some original songs in similar style. More recently, in July 2011 the Trio released their second album ‘Samas’, an album that has received excellent reviews from music magazines such as SONGLINES and IHOS. At the live performance at The House of Larimeloon they will present pieces from both their albums, as well as some new unreleased material.

The Pantheon Cultural Association & its concept store The House of Larimeloon in collaboration with the Paraplevros Group would like to invite you to “Evening ragas” presented by Reshma Srivastava - Sitar and Ravi Saundankar -Tabla. on Thursday 14th of April 2010, 7 pm onwards.
The sitar is a plucked stringed instrument predominantly used in Hindustani classical music, It derives its resonance from sympathetic strings, a long hollow neck and a gourd resonating chamber. Used throughout the Indian subcontinent, particularly in Northern India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, the sitar became known in the western world through the work of Pandit Ravi Shankar beginning in the late 1950s, particularly after George Harrison of The Beatles took lessons from Shankar and Shambhu Das and played sitar in songs including "Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)". Shortly after, The Rolling Stones used a sitar in "Paint It Black" and a brief fad began for using the instrument in pop songs. The tabla is a popular Indian percussion instrument (of the membranophone family) used in Hindustani classical music and in popular and devotional music of the Indian subcontinent. The instrument consists of a pair of hand drums of contrasting sizes and timbres. The term 'tabla is derived from an Arabic word, tabl, which simply means "drum." Playing technique involves extensive use of the fingers and palms in various configurations to create a wide variety of different sounds, reflected in the mnemonic syllables (bol). The heel of the hand is used to apply pressure or in a sliding motion on the larger drum so that the pitch is changed during the sound's decay.

Recycled City
Tangling between serious and fun, the work of both artists, Maria Alexandrou and Niovi Phinopoulou, emerges in an alternative city where its habitants and buildings merge with Nature blurring their differences. A city where lamps have their own jumper and video cassettes are your daily coffee table. Welcome to the Recycled City…
Maria Alexandrou A hands-on 3D designer with a flair in contemporary sculptural furniture. Materials she uses vary from wood to plastics, or to anything with texture- all taking part in the making process of pieces with their own character and personality. Her works include comfortable eco-friendly plastic sofas and recycled cardboard chair with a touch of jenga-style stool. In her latest exhibition, she explores 3D using discarded objects such as video cassettes and phone books.
Niovi Phinopoulou An illustrator focusing on commercial arts, book illustration and caricatures. Using a variety of styles and media she meets project demands, from picture book and book illustrations, to caricatures to large-scale art pieces. Vibrant and somewhat dark, each time the outcomes have their own identity. Main means of her work are traditional ink and drawing combined with digital painting and other material such of photographs. Her latest work she ‘recycles’ discarded old books as her drawing canvas and explores the subject of human-nature relation.
All items will be on sale. Drinks and snacks will be available at the bar. The exhibit will last from the 16th of March until the 23rd of March 2011. Winter Presentation Gathering
Local designer Froso Mavrou & The House of Larimeloon – Pantheon invites you to a festive, warm gathering celebrating the launch of the designer’s new hand-woven collection of handbags at the House of Larimeloon on Thursday 16th of December 2010 at 5pm until 10pm.
At the gathering people will be able to view and purchase the makings of the designer as well as enjoy a beverage along with homemade cakes which will be for sale.
Froso Mavrou has been designing and making her own handmade clothes and handbags for the past 3 years, slowly developing her own personal style. Her products are colorful, unique, functional and always at reasonable prices, considering the amount of time each one takes up to make. Emphasis is given to details in Mavrou’s work, this year, her weaving technique is what gives the difference to her handbags. The event will start at 5pm and will go on until 10pm. Throughout the evening The House of Larimeloon will host music selections by local music freak Lefteris Moumtzis.

Short Cuts” on Thursday 11th of November 2010, 8 pm onwards.
The evening will combine flamenco with musicians Stephanos and Evros, along with a presentation of the works carried out ...by the Paraplevros Group, a group dedicated to independent productions in all fields of the art world. On location there will be home made Spanish wine and a selective array of Tapas. The evening is to take place in the alternative store of the Pantheon Cultural Association, a space which has its basis of a shop with handmade & vintage pieces as well as art works, but a space which is also devoted to the arts in general, by hosting various events with a vision to support its creators. CD RELEASE PARTY, The House of Larimeloon - Pantheon Friday 22nd of October 2010, 20:00. Entrance Free  Local record label and event organising team Louvana is presenting the new album by British troubadour Adam Beattie. Adam Beattie and his band ‘The Consultants’ are based in London where they perform regularly. With influences ranging from Tom Waits to Leonard Cohen the group’s appearances are always captivating with Adam’s distinctive voice
leading the way in creating what he calls "folk s...tews ___ dirty blues". It’s worth mentioning that in the past he had supported legendary guitarist Bert Jansch in Glasgow. It’s not the first time that Beattie visits Cyprus. Last year he performed with the Consultants at the Louvana Festival of Acoustic Music and his music appears on the CD that Louvana Diskoi published shortly after, which included songs from all the acts that played at the festival. The Pantheon Cultural Association & its concept store, The House of Larimeloon, is to host graphic designers, Evi Nicolaou Vrahimi and Zara Der Arakelian. Aside the assets of the store itself, designers will share and sell their Christmas designs ranging from in-door decorations and gifts to make Christmas and presents more intriguing. Exhibition/ presentation of the private collection of Serbian Designer Lika Holzem entitled “Beyond the Boundaries” on Thursday 9th of December 2010, 5 pm.
Lika Holzem studied at the University of Art, Faculty for Applied Art, in the department of Costume Design and fell under the Atelier of Scenic Costume in Serbia.
Now living in Cologne, and since 1993 Lika has indulged into making costumes for theatrical performances and has also side lined towards the applied arts with a number of solo and group exhibitions in Serbia, Germany and Greece.
Lika’s visit to Nicosia, Cyprus is indeed to present her most recent collection of hats, coats and bags, items which she personally designs and makes predominantly using various fabrics which she personally makes out of soap, water, wool and buttons which are toned with very bright and lively colours and unique forms.
Today Lika creates her own collections of jewellery and clothes wear such as coats, hats and dresses.
As the designer explain, the title of the event, “Beyond the Boundaries”, was selected in association with the clothes the be presented, the pieces are unique and out of the ordinary, as all extravagant and one off items of clothing, you have to feel them and perhaps, be brave enough to wear them.

George Georgiou’s first summer collection Friday 18 June 2010, 5pm-10pm. Entrance Free  Summer Collection – George Georgiou The young creator, who is now starting his experience in the field of design and fashion, presents his first experimental collection, which is based on non synthetic fabrics, regardless of the initial usage if the fabrics he selects, and transforms them into unique pieces full of colour, interferences and fantasy. His clothing is based on simple and practical lines that prosper to bring out a girly and feminine touch with care to ecological matters. The presentation will take place at ‘The House of Larimeloon’ on June 18 from 5pm – 10pm. Pieces of the collection will remain in the shop after the presentation.
