"Do Not Feed the Humans"

Charalambos and Vaso Sergiou have been creating a series of installations under the general title “group show” investigating the current position and value of the artist in a period characterized by plurality and mass production.

The works provoke the experience of differing levels of aesthetic understanding showing the crucial contribution of the perceived artistic intention that determines the aesthetic experience of the viewer.

The particular installation “group show” involves five debutantes artists who create based on the title given ‘Do not feed the Humans’ portraying the tendencies developed by the humans to become pathetic and dangerously competitive.

The five artists invited to participate in the installation “group show” are:

  1. Chrysis Pantelides (1984)
  2. Agathi Hadjouli (1983)
  3. Adonis Miyiaki (1983)
  4. Pani Vasiliou (1985)
  5. Pico de Mirandola (1982)

The show is curated by Charalambos and Vaso Sergiou.

Media have been flooding the population for decades with stimulating images on daily bases.

Most of the information is capturing one’s imagination only for brief moments.

Due to the multiplicity and frequency of appearance, these pictures fail systematically to imprint it to the conscious of the viewer.

Being troubled by the scale and the reproduction of this information, we attempted to reassess and to transmit the images in to the viewer’s mind, aiming to divert the process to a personal experience.

The man has the ability to register and analyze the experience.

In the short term memory deteriorates.

In the long term experience is imprinted in consciousness

Scentless

“The human individual is socialized at childhood out of his own true spontaneous personality. This act of conditioning people’s behaviour patterns by imposing masks and attitudes upon them results from an act of violence masquerading as love.

It seems that it needs a reciprocal act of violence to free a person from his masks”

Their work explores the experiences and phobias that a person carries within, since his/her early age. The family which is directly related to the formulation of the personality of such a man, influences and composes the various masks that the adult person will use to face and handle reality.

The artists attempt introspection in order to work out the origins of a grown up. We have been artistically stimulated by the causes that have led us systematically back to the face of a child which appears faintly and disappears again in to the mind of the troubled adult.
